Welcome to 2020 – Get Involved and Enjoy It
There seems to be more confidence about now that we have left the frustrations of 2019 behind us. There is a new Government in Westminster and the Brexit is now under way, which means that change will be with us for the next few years and we all want it to be for the better after the stagnation of the past few years.
There is an old saying “you make your own luck”, so we recommend that in 2020 you test it by getting involved in community matters. Most people that do find that they get a nice feeling from knowing that they are helping others to enjoy life, even if it is something very simple that they have helped with. Also you usually find that the “Good Samaritans” of this world are very happy people.
Here in the Crowan Parish it was delightful to see how so many people supported their communities with the splendid Christmas light displays, all of which helped to compensate for the rather wet weather that we have been experiencing this winter. Our thanks goes to all those volunteers that worked so hard to make them happen. Without their efforts in raise money, make and install them our festive season would have been much duller.
This is truly a fine example of community action, where local groups get together to make a difference. They want to help make their localities be brighter and show that they care about them, and such actions provide a lifting of general goodwill which helps us all.
So during 2020 it will be great to see other community led activities be supported not just on the day of the event, but by getting together in helping with the organisation and work to make events happen. Most people find that through working with others on a common cause helps them discover more about themselves as they rise to the challenges and make new friends. It is usually a true win-win scenario that improves their happiness and quality of life for others and themselves.
The Parish Council is keen to learn from the communities throughout the Parish where they feel that we can help and particularly if there is a project where some guidance may make a difference.
Also we are aware that there are a number of people that really put a lot of effort into helping make life better for others, so during 2020 we are introducing an award for a community champion.
Neighbourhood Development Plan
As your Parish Council we want to help you to be proud of your living in such a lovely part of Cornwall, and as a result of your support last year the Crowan Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan was adopted by Cornwall Council. This has already made a difference as Planning Applications now have to conform with the policies that we developed to protect our parish, and has led to the stopping of certain developments that would have otherwise be passed by the Cornwall County Planners.
During 2019 it was realised that although Nancegollan and Leedstown had defibrillators near the centres of the villages Townshend and Leedstown, so we have now been to establish these facilities in the old telephone kiosks. This has also included moving the defibrillator at Leedstown to the kiosk next to the Old Post Office where it is now in a more environmentally secure cabinet.
To make this work with confidence it has meant that we have arranged First Aid training for people local to the units and Councillors with the assistance of Ian Tessier from Nancegollan. As a result we are keen to arrange training for others who are interested in what to do in an emergency together with when and how to use a defibrillator.
You can contact us to get further information about any of the above and get further Council information is various ways including:-
