Crowan Parish Council is working hard to meet the challenges that Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss have brought to Parish Councils, as well as Cornwall Council and National Government. We are meeting those challenges head on – with action.
We have been discussing Climate change and making changes to the way Crowan Parish Council operates since 2019. We have Declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency, made a Pledge for Nature as part of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Nature Partnership initiative, and Declared a Biodiversity Emergency. We are also building Climate Action into our own action plan to ensure it’s not all just talk!
It is our duty to have regard for conserving biodiversity
Crowan Parish Councils should be able to meet our duty to have regard for conserving biodiversity when we:
- develop policies and strategies
- consult on planning applications
- manage:
- our land and buildings
- woodlands and nature reserves
- gardens, parks and public open space
- community amenities eg. such as playing fields
- waste and pollution
- energy and water
- make decisions about procurement
- implement economic, environmental and social programmes
Read A Green Future: Our 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment which sets out National goals for improving the environment and conserving biodiversity.
